When is the Best Time to Hire an Interior Designer?
If you're thinking about working with us as your interior designer, you're probably wondering: When is the right time to hire? How long will it take? I need my home done by the holidays—help!
We get these questions all the time, and the short answer is: the earlier, the better. Interior design is a layered, collaborative process that takes time. While we’re always excited to dive into new projects, it’s not a short turn around—on average, our furniture projects take 6 months from start to finish, and construction projects can take 9+ months pending project size and contractor schedule.
Our best advice? Reach out early. If we’re a great fit, we can reserve future availability so we can begin your project at a time that works best for you. The earlier you involve a designer, the more seamless and creative the experience will be. Trust us—the best results are worth the wait!
Below are a few key considerations for deciding the right time to hire:
Consider: Our Availability Ahead of Beginning Your Design
Every project we take on is incredibly important to us. Our goal is to deliver a unique, detailed, and high quality design— every time. In order to do this, we cannot start new projects until we have the capacity to move on from the last.
Our availability will vary, but more often than not, we cannot start new projects immediately after you hire us. On average we will be booking 4-6 weeks out.
Consider: The Time We Will Need to Create an Original Design for You
Our process includes working with you to understand your needs and vision. Once we have a foundation and understand your personal style, we begin. We need time to do product research, assemble the design, and create the space plans in each room.
While the scope of the project will largely determine the overall timeline, we typically require several weeks to assemble all the elements thoughtfully. Our collaborative approach means we listen closely, explore ideas together, and allow room for creativity to unfold and evolve!
Consider: Furniture Lead Time
All our designs are one-of-a-kind and are tailored to be specific to each individual client. In order to do this, we specify custom and made-to-order items.
Custom and made-to-order items vary in production time. From rugs to upholstered goods and wood-furniture, quality products will take time to make.
We track all of our orders closely and anticipate that many items will have a lead time of 12+ weeks .
Consider: Contractor Availability and Construction Duration
Just like us, our trusted contractors need time to complete quality work. This means most contractors will not be able to immediately begin your project.
Time should be allotted for their schedule, in addition to the duration it takes to complete quality work once they begin. And, just like furniture goods, construction materials can have lead times.
